It is vital that you keep the surgery up to date with your current contact details as occasions can arise when we might need to contact you urgently. Increasingly we are using text to communicate reminders and other updates to parents/carers and we need your current mobile number to do this.

The Practice comprises of two surgeries. Our main surgery, Buckland Medical Centre, Brookfield Place, Dover and our branch surgery at Tara, The Droveway, St Margaret's Bay, (dispensing surgery).
With patients' needs at the heart of everything we do, our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain instant access to the information you need. As well as specific practice details such as opening hours and how to register, you’ll find a wealth of useful pages covering a wide range of health issues along with links to other relevant medical organisations.
Confidentiality & Medical Records
The Practice complies with data protection and access to medical records legislation. Identifiable information about you will be shared with others in the following circumstances:
- To provide further medical treatment for you e.g. from district nurses and hospital services
- To help you get other services e.g. from the social work department. This requires your consent.
- When we have a duty to other e.g. in child protection cases anonymised patient information will also be used at local and national level to help the Health Board and Government plan services e.g. for diabetic care.
If you do not wish anonymous information about you to be used in such a way, please let us know.
Reception and administration staff require access to your medical records in order to do their jobs. These members of staff are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the medical staff.
Freedom of Information
Information about the General Practitoners and the practice required for disclosure under this act can be made available to the public. All requests for such information should be made to the Practice Manager - in writing.
Access to Records
In accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and Access to Health Records Act, patients may request to see their medical records, Such requests should be made in writing and may be subject to an administration charge. No information will be released without the patient consent unless we are legally obliged to do so.
How we use your Health Records
How information about you helps us to provide better care
Confidential information from your medical records can be used by the NHS to improve the services offered so we can provide the best possible care for everyone.
This information along with your postcode and NHS number but not your name, are sent to a secure system where it can be linked with other health information.
This allows those planning NHS services or carrying out medical research to use information from different parts of the NHS in a way which does not identify you.
You have a choice. If you are happy for your information to be used in this way you do not have to do anything.

We make every effort to give the best service possible to everyone who attends our Practice. However, we are aware that things can go wrong resulting in a patient feeling that they have a genuine cause for complaint. If this is the case, we would wish for the matter to be settled as quickly as possible, and as amicably as possible.

Zero Tolerance Policy
Buckland Medical Centre operates a Zero Tolerance with regard to violence and abuse and has the right to remove violent patients from the list with immediate effect in order to safeguard Practice staff, patients and other persons. Violence in this context includes actual or threatened physical violence or verbal abuse which leads to fear for a person's safety. In this situation we will notify the patient in writing of their removal from the Practice list and record in the patient's medical records the fact of the removal and the circumstances leading to it.
To provide high quality compassionate care for our patients, and by working in partnership with them , to make the best uses of our health resources.

On the 11th June 2019 the Practice had a follow up visit to review the service "Well Led" which had been rated "Require Improvement" on 8th January 2019. The overall rating for all services is "GOOD"
